The band is comprised of experienced, Vancouver-based musicians with a wide range of Musical backgrounds and influences. The band plays a mixture of Jazz Standards, Swing, R & B and Blues.
Les Toth: GUITAR Les has had a life-long passion for music, starting to play guitar in his teens. He studied jazz at Capilano College and over three decades was the music director at West Van Secondary School. He's played countless gigs in a variety of genres.
KEN LEEDHAM: DRUMS Ken has been playing drums and percussion for over 45 yrs with a wide variety of projects from pop, rock, Latin and now bringing his rudiments and passion to the Jazz/Blues genre with The Dog Ears.
LIBOR MICHALAK: BASS / CLARINET / SAX Graduated from Toronto Music School with a B.Mus. played in many recording sessions for radio, several CDs with Swing2Beat, performed in numerous festivals and local bands. Started on horns and learned upright bass as a second instrument.
JEREMY ROGERS: KEY BOARDS Jeremy is an accomplished keyboard player with Conservatory training. He has been playing for over 50 years in numerous local fusion, rock, blues and jazz projects during the course of his career.

Tommy Van Solo LIVE at 2nd Floor Gastown
Tom (Tommy) van Deursen has been a touring musician for the past 17 years. Born in Vancouver BC on May 7th, 1989, raised in the tiny mountain town of Kaslo, and currently residing on Salt Spring Island after 12 years of music and career development in East Van. He is an original member of Vancouver’s Tropical Disco-Rockers The Boom Booms, and the frontman for the rock band Small Town Artillery Collective. He has toured Brasil, Europe, The USA, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Haiti with The Boom Booms and many times around Western Canada + Ontario with STAC. This new project, “Van Solo”, is a one-man-band experience. A place for all the songs and stories that don’t land naturally with the bands, and a way to challenge van Deursen musically. He puts on a deep feeling and warm show, not afraid to engage with a crowd and lean into experimentation within the confines of his songs. A little piano and keys, lots of Stratocaster and acoustic guitar, and a wide vocal range all get thrown into the air, with the thump of a kick drum and the goosh of a snare played by his feet to help with the foundations. Think James Blake in a boxing match with Jack White while the lads from Half Moon Run play a well-paced game of bocce ball outside. But the grass is tall. And a storm is coming.

John Gross Trio FT Bill Coon and Conrad Good LIVE at 2nd Floor Gastown
John has been playing with the greats of the Jazz and entertainment world since 1961. This extensive list includes Harry James, Stan Kenton, Johnny Mathis, Lionel Hampton, Shelly Manne, Toshiko Akioshi, , Stevie Wonder, Hugh Fraser, and many others. He has been featured at the Coastal Jazz Festival many times and has been a welcome addition to the Vancouver Jazz scene since 2016. He is a unique and masterful musician who loves to play songs that are beautiful and interesting.
Bill Coon was the recipient of the 2009 National Jazz Awards, Guitarist of the Year. He leads several of his own groups including the BC Double Quartet whose recording, Departure with Brad Turner on trumpet and violinist Cameron Wilson was nominated for a 2019 Western Canadian Music Award. He is featured on three Western Canadian Music Award winning recordings, including the genre-bending Jasmine Jazz, winner of the Best Instrumental Recording of 2023.

Thomas Moon Trio LIVE at 2nd Floor Gastown
Thomas is a vocalist–percussionist. Before the drum, we had our feet for rhythm. Music made with the body. Tap dance grew with jazz through all its iterations and, as the story goes (told by Gillespie/Papa Jo Jones), was a driving force in the evolution of the art form. In difficult times it was cohesive and artistically expansive. There are many ways to sing the blues. Thomas draws on these traditions in his work as a jazz band leader and performing artist. Early years in Australia were greatly influenced by teacher Grant Swift and his playing live with local Melbourne jazz music greats. From 2010 until the present he has toured extensively throughout Europe, Russia and Asia; studied music and traditional dance in Guinea; led various jazz groups; was a principal member of the (then) only full-time tap dance company in the world "Tapestry Dance"; received a Fine Arts scholarship at Monash University; lived primarily out of a suitcase; taught dance to children in countryside Hokkaido over several spring/summer seasons; married; is still moving. Events/venues include: Falls Music and Arts Festival; Moscow Tsaritsyno Palace; Quebec DANSEncore; Shanghai Int. Arts Festival; Melbourne's Hamer Hall; Woodford Folk Fest; the Shanghai mansion Bangkok; Apollo Bay Music Festival; Iðnó (Reykjavik); Performing tours of China and Switzerland.

Quinn, Armen and Shakir present the jazz stylings and collaborations of veterans Norm Quinn, Trumpet and Flugelhorn, Hag Armen Guitar and David Shakir Bass. Their music will include unique interpretations of jazz standards and some new compositions, A magical presentation of the music they know and love. Norm Quinn plays Trumpet and Flugelhorn with this group. Known best for his melodicism and innovation and for his “It’s all about the music” approach. He also leads the quartet Big Shoulders, and plays with The Curbside Collective, The BLJQ, Material Culture, and other groups from the Vancouver area. Jazz guitarist, Haig Armen plays with decades of experience from the jazz scenes of Vancouver and Montreal, Haig’s style blends traditional jazz sensibilities with an eclectic mix of modern jazz, creating a sound uniquely his own. Known for weaving melodic lines through hard-bop, bossa-nova, blues, and funky rhythms, Haig is an active jazz composer and leads the group Curbside Collective. Dave Shakur is that rare musician who moves seamlessly between the jazz, classical, free improvisation, and indie rock worlds. He currently plays with Big Shoulders, and on projects with William Hooker, and NOW Orchestra, Monk’s Dream Trio and post-punk rockers Dark. Dave’s’ great bass playing drives the bus.

Bill Coon Trio LIVE at 2nd Floor Gastown
Bill Coon was the recipient of the 2009 National Jazz Awards, Guitarist of the Year. He leads several of his own groups including the Bill Coon Trio, BC Double Quartet whose recording, Departure with Brad Turner on trumpet and violinist Cameron Wilson was nominated for a 2019 Western Canadian Music Award. He is featured on three Western Canadian Music Award winning recordings, most recently the recording Jasmine Jazz, winner of the Best Instrumental Recording of 2023. He has performed with Jimmy Heath, Peter Bernstein, Scott Hamilton, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Lewis Nash, Peter Washington, Lorne Lofsky, Sheila Jordan, , Hugh Fraser, P.J. Perry, Grant Stewart, Pat Bianchi, and Rebecca Kilgore. Coon is well-known for his many collaborations, most recently recordings with vocalist Sienna Dahlen Balladextrous (Cellar Music), Laura Crema, StringSongs, featuring Peggy Lee and Jon Bentley. Upcoming recordings include a selection of solo guitar pieces and an album with Triology featuring Scott Hamilton, both to be released on Cellar Music. His compositions and arrangements for large ensembles include Jill Townsend Jazz Orchestra, Cory Weeds 11-piece ensemble and has collaborated with jazz vocalist Denzal Sinclaire on the Juno nominated CD, I Found Love, and with hip-hop artist K-os on his Juno award-winning CD Joyful Rebellion. He is a faculty member of the VSO School of Music and the Jazz Studies department at Capilano University in North Vancouver.

The 2nd Floor Gastown offers Live Music on Thursdays - Sundays, open during Dinner Service from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. Guests may seat for both sets depending on availability and manager discretion.
