Cara McCandless
Cara McCandless is a prolific singer-songwriter and guitar player who doesn’t like to linger too long in one genre, but her live show is a blend of heartfelt blues, folk, rock, and country.
When Cara got her first guitar it was a life changing moment that became a passion and a journey of self discovery and reflection through songwriting. From that moment, Cara took to writing and has written over 160 songs and counting.
Cara had released three albums. Gypsy Sea, her debut album, Cara McCandless, her self titled acoustic album, and DADGAD, a bunch of songs written in an alternate tuning. Cara is set to record a fourth album in her home based studio in Victoria, BC that will showcase her bluesability.
Cara’s passion for music extends past writing, to recording, and to playing live where she shines and shares her stories and her talent.
Sparky Spurr
Sparky Spurr, a Vancouver actor and musician, loves to entertain! Playing guitar since she was 18, Sparky has been writing songs ever since. Raised on gospel music, Sparky took a detour through punk, then landed squarely in the middle of the bluegrass community, all of which have influenced her music.
Equal parts silly, sassy, and serious, you never quite know what you are going to get when Sparky shows up! People have dubbed her “Queen of Country Cute”, and once you’ve experienced her live, you’ll know why. Look for her solo act, or performing with The Wretched Sinners, her hot-shot band of revolving musicians from the Vancouver roots scene.
Leah Barley
Vancouver-based singer/songwriter Leah Barley offers stirring original songs that evoke both the jubilation and heartbreak inherent to classic folk and country music. An accomplished banjo player as well as guitarist, Barley creates a sound as affecting today as it was a century ago.
Her first full-length album Bring Out Your Dead, released in October 2020, almost perfectly balances Barley’s light-and-shade approach to songwriting. It’s all a product of Barley’s love of old-time country and bluegrass, which inspired her to pick up the banjo in her early twenties while living in Canmore, Alberta.
After a couple of months getting her feet wet at open mic nights, she released the first of three EPs in 2010 after moving to Vancouver. Since 2013, Barley has played in many parts of Canada, both solo and with other bands on the festival circuit, and was a featured performer at JUNOfest 2018, as well as on CBC Music.
Bring Out Your Dead will brilliantly serve as Leah Barley’s calling card, and formally mark the arrival of a vital new voice in Canadian roots music.
Laura Crema
Blue Shadows on the Trail showcases Laura’s stunning voice and ingenuity. Along with one original song on the album, Crema has reimagined some of the nest classics while making them uniquely hers at the same time, recreating them for a new generation of folk, jazz, and country lovers. This album is a feast with rich avors that will satisfy your musical palette. A collection of blended genres that gives birth to revitalized originals. Her captivating voice and independent vision allows her to transcend the limitations of covers and produce reimagined songs that have a life of their own. Rich, languourous and breath taking, you won’t hear another record like Blue Shadows On The Trail anywhere else.
Kassandra Clack
Kassandra Clack is a tenacious country artist who is no stranger to radio buzz in both major and satellite radio markets. With her most recent involvement as a finalist in Canadian Music Week's Jim Beam 2021 Talent Search, Kassandra has enhanced her industry presence while telling stories from the heart.
Determined to further herself as a nationally syndicated country artist, her releases 'Buy My Own Beer', 'Stolen', and 'Are You With Me' were both added to SiriusXM's country rotation. In 2021, 'Buy My Own Beer' made its way to Yangaroo/DMDS' “Top 5 Country Downloaded” and “Most Active Indie” charts. Kassandra has been featured coast to coast on CBC Country Radio, JFRM, and Country 93.3.
Ben Arsenault
In a lonesome, scraggly drawl, Ben Arsenault sings songs about the road he’s travelled and the characters he’s spent time with along the way. Drawing on experiences from relationships of which he’s had the pleasure and pain of sharing, Ben’s songwriting takes a laid-back look into the conundrum that is human existence. Inspired by the wild mountains and waters of his BC home, and all the open country from Canada to Mexico, his music makes a good driving companion as you’re going down the road. His self-titled debut solo album, featuring Ben on acoustic guitar, harmonica and vocals, is a tribute to the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Merle Haggard and all the great singer/songwriters of country music.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference. Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
