One of Vancouver’s most exciting contemporary jazz quartets, playing compositions by grand masters of the scene
and musical mavericks. Performing standards by composers and performers we know and love: Miles, Coltrane,
Hancock, Shorter, Sharrock, Bowie, Mingus, Strayhorn, Montgomery, Monk, and Metheney and many more writers
made famous by their work. These compositions are then reworked into our improvisational style. The band may
also play their own, select compositions in a modern, eclectic style.
Norm Quinn is a veteran of the Vancouver and Toronto jazz scene(s), educated at Douglas College,
Humber College, and Toronto’s New School of Music. He plays with his quartet Big Shoulders, The BLJQ,
and Curbside Collective, He also plays blues with Mud Bay and Burning House and works as a soloist
with various community big bands in and around the Vancouver area.
Guenter Schulz is a master guitarist, fluent in styles from jazz to country, noise to pop. Educated in
Hamburg Germany., Guenter has worked worldwide as a guitarist, composer, and producer. He also plays
with Lisa Dunn and the tribute band Zappastrophy.
David Oli Shakur is that rare musician who moves seamlessly between the jazz, classical, free
improvisation, and indie rock worlds playing with avant-garde luminaries like Eugene Chadbourne, William
Hooker, and Now Orchestra. Oli currently appears with the Monk’s Dream Trio and post-punk rockers Dark
Dials. Oli’s bass drives the band.
JP Larpin is one of Vancouver’s finest jazz drummers. Born In Switzerland, JP has over the last 25 years.
played with many world-class musicians, including Curtis Fuller, Roy Hargrove, Johnny Griffin, to name a
few.
